It has been reported that one of the first moves of the newly installed Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), has been to demand a four-fold hike in the salaries of the Municipal Councilors.
Coming so close on the heels of his election as Chairperson of the MMC, this smells suspiciously like a form of gratification or reward to the councilors for their support in installing him as Chairperson of the MMC. If this be so, it is a most undesirable way of ensuring the Councillors’ loyalty and support , which comes at the cost of the taxpayers, and sets yet another undesirable precedent on the deteriorating political and administrative scenario. Citizens need to be vigilant about such motives.
