PANJIM: Two days after Crime Branch (CB) sleuths arrested a Bijapur youth in a prostitution raid, the team took custody of a female senior citizen for allegedly running the illicit racket.
Joyce Loharchalwala, aged 69, and resident of Anjuna, was arrested for allegedly trafficking a vulnerable girl from Bihar, who was rescued during the raid last month. “She brought the girl and lodged her in a rented room,” an officer said. The woman has been remanded to judicial custody.
The team, led by PI Rahul Parab, had arrested Gokul Rathod (21), from Bijapur in Karnataka on being found with a girl, who was trafficked to be supplied to a decoy customer. The 30-year-old girl from Bihar was rescued and lodged at a protective home. The investigation team is now probing involvement of others and whether more girls have been pushed into this trade.
