MARGAO: Margao’s Gandhi market showed no signs of any vegetable shortage on Monday, but vegetable traders and vendors kept their fingers crossed over the supply of vegetables from Belgaum in the days ahead.
The markets received fresh stock of vegetables in the wee hours of Monday after trucks from Belgaum crossed over to Goa before the strike called by the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries came into effect from midnight.
Traders said that the market had received adequate supply of vegetables on Monday, which will take care of the requirements in the next two days.
Leader of Gandhi Market vegetable traders Babu Azgaonkar said that no truck carrying vegetables will come into Goa on Tuesday since vegetable markets are normally closed on Monday. “Whatever vegetable supply we have received will last only for a day or two. We are keeping our fingers crossed over the supply of vegetables to Goa from tomorrow with the strike call given by the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries over the entry tax”, Azgaonkar added.
