PANJIM: Aryan High School has been granted permission by the Directorate of Education to add a higher secondary section from the academic year 2015-16.
The department is still examining applications from six other institutions that had also applied for setting up higher secondary schools in four streams at Pernem, Quepem, Ponda, Bicholim and Margao.
“As of now, the unaided school has obtained the permission to operate the higher secondary school. The remaining applications are in the process of being scrutinised,” education director Gajanan Bhat told Herald.
Of the seven schools, three have expressed their desire to start higher secondaries in the Science stream while two opted for Commerce and one each in Arts and Agriculture. The department put the respective assistant district education inspectors (ADEI) on the job for compiling feasibility reports, which are expected to be completed by March-end.
The feasibility report will look at several factors such as infrastructure, background and objections from nearby higher secondaries, if any, among others.
If all these are approved, the rush for admissions to HSS may ease since they will add to the already existing 90 institutions.
With the ‘no detention’ policy in force, a large number of students are passing out from the schools.
