BICHOLIM: Taking serious cognisance of the custodian of evacuee property issue of Mayem village, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has instructed the Collectorate office to streamline the process of providing sanads to the villagers of Mayem by allotting them ownership rights over the property.

Bicholim Deputy Collector Deepak Vaigankar said, “So far, Bicholim taluka Deputy Collector’s office with the assistance from senior official R Maneka and Gopal Parsekar from North Goa Collector’s office has undertaken the process of providing charters to the Mayem locals and so far 80 new applications from the pending 810 applications have been disposed.”
It may be recalled that Mayem locals under the banner of Mayem Bhuvimochan Nagarik Kruti Samiti (MBNKS) on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Goa’s Liberation Day had decided to hold an agitation to protest the lackadaisical attitude of the government in expediting the process of providing ownership rights to Mayem locals.
However, soon after this development, the Chief Minister had convened a special meeting with the members MBNKS wherein he had assured them to resolve this issue on priority basis which consequently led to the postponing of the agitation.
Since the last three days, the Bicholim taluka Deputy Collector’s office has started implementing the process.
MBNKS president Rajesh Kalangutkar, Sakharam Pednekar, Kalidas Kavlekar, Kashinath Mayekar, Yeshwant Karbhatkar, Harishchandra Chari and others have welcomed the process.
MLA Pravin Zantye too has welcomed the move and added that the issue would be resolved soon.
“The struggle has been going on for the last several years. However, former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar had paid special attention to this issue by enacting a new law and the charter process has started now, Now, everything will be settled,” he said.
“Our demand is that the government should provide all the rights to the people of Mayem immediately and that our repeated demand for a hearing should be held immediately,” said Mayem sarpanch Tulshidas Chodankar.
MBNKS members have demanded that the government should complete this process immediately and ensure that no legal disputes arise in future.
Till date only 272 persons have been given sanads.
