SANGUEM: A total of 191 candidates are in the fray for 51 wards in the seven panchayats of Sanguem taluka.
Two candidates — one Mrs Rajani Gaonkar from ward No 5 of Netravali and Sandeep Prabhu from Ward No 6 of Sanvordem – have been declared elected unopposed.
In most of the wards there is a triangular or four cornered contest except in certain wards where there are five candidates in the fray. Least number of candidates are however contesting in Netrvali where there are only fourteen candidates vying for six wards. Except in Ward No 1 where there are four candidates in the fray, the remaining five wards will witness a straight fight between two candidates.
Maximum candidates are in fray in Rivona where there are 33 candidates vying for nine wards. Except Wards 2 and 8 where there are two candidates each, in all the remaining seven wards there are either three or four candidates contesting against each other.
In Uguem, straight fight will be witnessed in Ward No 1 and 2 where there are only two candidates vying against each other. The remaining five wards have either four or five candidates contesting for the five seats.
In Bhati, there are two candidates each contesting from Ward 3 and 6. In the remaining five seats there are a total of 15 candidates.
At Kalay, except in Ward No 7 where there are five candidates in the fray, the remaining six wards will witness a two or three cornered fight. The cash rich Sanvordem has a total of 28 candidates contesting from the eight wards. In ward No 6 Sandeep Prabhu is declared elected unopposed.
