Goa Special athletes shine

margao, SEPT 21 Goa Special Olympics bagged the highest number of medals, 20 in all, 9 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze, at the National Special Olympics roller skating championship in Hyderabad. A warm reception was accorded to them at the Margao railway station on Monday.

Goa Special Olympics bagged the highest number of medals, 20 in all, 9 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze, at the National Special Olympics roller skating championship in Hyderabad. A warm reception was accorded to them at the Margao railway station on Monday.
The Goan team also bagged  another 3 gold in TT, a silver in badminton and football and bronze in badminton, basketball, TT doubles men and women. These events were held in Rajasthan, Pondicherry, Kolkata.
Gold: Manjunath Bhudiyal (100m, 300m); Ambresh Kumbhari (100m); Sunita Suryavanshi (300m); Frencila Carvalho (30m stallion, 30m); Rubina Haroon (100m); Nazim Naikwadi (TT singles); Milton Fernandes (TT singles); Beena Vernekar (TT singles).
Silver: Jailanai Doodamani (100m); Vinayak Patgar (30m stallion);  Melvin Fernandes (30m); Joel Rodrigues and Jesus Rebello (badminton singles). Football (Francis Rebello, Daniel De Sousa, Joseph Rodrigues; Inas Cruz, Caitan Fernandes, Parshuram Fadte, Vaibhav Bhomkar, Yogesh Nillappawar).
Bronze:  Jailanai Doodamani (300m, 2×100 relay); Vinayak Patgar (30m); Ambresh Kumbhari (2x100m); Rubina Haroon (2×100); Joel Rodrigues and Jesus Rebello (badminton); basketball (Simon Fernandes, Neil Fernandes, John Fernandes, Paresh Gaunekar, Jesus Rebello, Adhutya Naik, MIthil Velingkar, Santosh Gawasm); Rajesh Kamble and Milton Fernandes (TT); Suzie Mascarenhas and Sacvita Adpaikar (TT);
The athletes were from Gujarati Samaj Special School, Margao; Disha Charitable Trust, Panjim.
The technical inputs were provided by coach Mahesh who was assisted by Chandrakant Naik and Oswy Rebello.
Meanwhile, a preparatory camp will be held for athletes selected for World Special Olympics Summer Games to be held in Greece in June 2011.
