PANJIM: As part of its ongoing awareness campaign on health and sanitation issues, GOACAN has begun circulating various materials prepared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and related agencies particularly on tuberculosis, vector borne diseases, dangers of tobacco and the coronavirus among others so that it reaches as many people at the grassroots level in State.
During the current lockdown in State to prevent the spread of COVID-19, GOACAN volunteers through their respective consumer forums and consumer welfare clubs are reaching out to consumers on the importance of community participation and support to the health awareness drives of the health centres in municipal and panchayat areas.

The current focus of this awareness campaign is two comic books on coronavirus for “Kids – Vaayu and Corona: Who Wins the Fight? Which is a comic for COVID-19 awareness and Vaayu and Corona: Can We Defeat Pandemic? A comic for COVID-19 prevention.
“The comic books are an effort to spread awareness among children and provide information on the outbreak and how they can remain safe. ‘Kids, Vaayu and Corona’ designed by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and Panjab University, Chandigarh, has Vaayu as a superhero who has been called upon to educate the children about the pandemic so they can ‘fight’ it. The books are conceptualised and written by Dr Ravindra Khaiwal, additional professor of Environmental Health — PGIMER- – Chandigarh and Dr Suman Mor, associate professor and chairperson, Department of Environment Studies, Punjab University,” GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins said.
