Verna Sports Club,Verna defeated United Club of Nerul 3-0 to move into the semi-finals of 14th Holy Cross inter-village soccer tournament organised by Holy Cross Sports Club at Vodlemoll Kakoda. They led 1-0 at the break.
Nerul pressed hard in the first half and came up with many scoring opportunities with Xavier Clemente at the helm of affairs but they failed to find the target.
It was in the 25th minute that Mariano Cruz opened the account for Verna through a superb volley.
Verna looked more dangerous in the second half and substitute Wilson Fernandes scored through a header.
Just before full time, Anthony Rego rounded off the tally.
Samson Menezes of Verna and Charles Pereira of Nerul were cautioned for unsporting behaviour.
