MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao has expressed hopes that at least now the long pending and neglected issues plaguing Margao will be addressed as it has now got a new chairperson. In a press note released by the Shadow Council for Margao, Savio Coutinho said they had deliberately maintained silence on the recent shenanigans at MMC.
He pointed out that for the last four years all the councilors maintained a deafening silence even as the Shadow Council for Margao was highlighting several illegalities happening in the council. He referred to the discriminatory sanitation fees imposed on loyal taxpayers, AC dustbin room, waste collection fraud by Bapu and the payment of Rs 1 lakh per day to Fomento Green as some of the illegalities carried by MMC.
Savio while pointing out that all the councilors remained silent on these illegalities further pointed out that nobody even questioned the logic over spending municipal funds for the much publicized “Opinion Poll Square”.
He recalled that the same issue of “following proper procedure” was raised earlier when it was proposed to install a statue of Konkani martyr Floriano Vas and finally the statue was never installed.
