Salcete mamlatar directed to identify land for housing scheme

Activist urges Goans to be vigilant and oppose mega housing projects in their locality

MARGAO: The Salcete Mamlatar has been directed to identify land for housing under the Atal Awas Yojana Scheme.
On Friday, the Talathi and Secretary of Dramapur Sirlim were inspecting the Regional Plan 2021 to identify land for the scheme.
Former sarpanch and member of United Goans Foundation Dominic Noronha said that he was told that a memorandum has been issued by the mamlatdar to identify certain land, which have the name of the Goa Government included in Form I&XIV.
“I read the memorandum and the villages for which the memorandum is issued is Cuncolim, Chinchinim, Dramapur and Nuvem,” he said.
Noronha requested all Goenkars to observe such activities through their panchayats and bring it to public notice as, the same can be dealt with before any idea is projected.
Noronha said that his is a wakeup call for Goans and Goenkars should be alert in their villages.
“The Goenkarponn Government is all out to make Goa look unique by trying to identify lands in villages for the purpose of housing board,” he said.
Herald spoke to Salcete Mamlatar Joah Fernandes. He said that the memorandum is issued only for Cuncolim village and Quepem. It is unclear whether the Salcete mamlatar would be asked to identify land in Quepem. The Mamlatar informed that an official from the Governor’s office came to him with the memorandum.
Atal Awas Yojana is a flagship scheme of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The timing of the memorandum suggests that this scheme is a part of the 2019 election pitch of Modi. However, the secret manner in which the scheme is implemented in Goa indicates that it would receive stiff opposition in gram sabhas.
