PANJIM: The Congress has demanded an apology from Education Director Vandana Rao for “insulting” its office bearers, who had approached her to inquire about delayed salaries of staff of North and Central Educational zones on Monday.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has conveyed utter disappointment at the IAS officer’s conduct as he sought Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s intervention.
“She (Rao) asked our office bearers to ‘get out’ of her office chamber. Any government servant cannot use such words even to general public. It is an insult to the office bearers of the organisation. We want that the chief minister to intervene to ask her to apologise to these office bearers,” he said addressing a press conference in the party head office on Tuesday.
On Monday, a delegation of 10 representatives from Congress, NSUI and women’s wing met Rao seeking to know release of salaries to the staff of the two educational zones. On being asked for an exact date to issue the payments, Rao asked the party men to “get out of my room.”
Kamat said the “insult” was unprovoked. The party has also lodged a complaint with the Porvorim police station in this regard. “The FIR is filed for insulting the office bearers in front of everyone,” Kamat said advising government servants to adhere to rules and regulations while dealing with the public on any official matters.
Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho said that Rao’s attitude was in fact an insult to all Goans. “We have also received verbal grievance from three headmasters that the Education Director is very arrogant. Such an attitude doesn’t suit a highly qualified person and more particularly an IAS officer,” she commented.
