According to the directorate’s performance budget 2015-16, the budget estimates for the sub plan for the year 2014-15 were pegged at Rs 53 lakh, but is now expected to use funds worth Rs 3,877 lakh.
The sub plan looks to map the number of tribal people living in the State and categorize them.
The department said being the nodal department, it along with 16 other sectoral departments are implementing the plan for development and welfare of the community by earmarking funds that are proportional to the population in the State.
Budgetary estimates for the welfare of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes also increased from Rs 840 lakh in 2014-15 to Rs 920 lakh. Social security and welfare programmes aim at enabling the deprived sections of the population to ameliorate their socio-economic conditions and improve their quality of life. The budget earmarked for these programmes in 2014-15 was estimated at Rs 25,080 lakh but was later revised to Rs 31,080 lakh and is expected to cost Rs 32,099 lakh for the financial year 2015-16.
Another scheme that is gaining popularity is the recently launched ‘financial assistance to the persons engaged in traditional occupations/businesses including motorcycle pilots.’
The objective of the scheme is to provide social security and financial support for healthy living to the persons engaged in occupations/businesses, who earn their livelihood and continue to do so even today through traditional occupation including motorcycle pilots.
