MARGAO: Tourist taxi owners and drivers at a meeting held on Sunday at Benaulim decided to stay off the road from January 19 to protest against the harassment meted out to them by the authorities even as illegal taxi trade is being looked at with Nelson’s eye.
Speaking to media persons, Rocky Fernandes said tourist taxi owners are harassed by the authorities who do not give their documents and licenses on time. “They delay in giving us fitness certificate and passing the vehicle besides delaying in returning any documents,” he said.
Chetan Kamat, another tourist taxi owner, said that the authorities have not taken any action against those running tourist taxi trade illegally.
