PANJIM: Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) may soon venture into the taxi business. A decision to this effect was taken by the KTCL Board at its meeting on Thursday.
KTC chairman Carlos Almeida said, “KTCL is a transport corporation and therefore we also want to venture into that line. We are at the initial stage of planning and will soon appoint a consultant.”
Asked if the service would be a competitor to that already announced Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), he said that KTC would hold talks with GTDC on how the two corporations could supplement each other.
Almeida said, “We will discuss the finer points with GTDC. Maybe we could come up with something like, some cities we provide the services while others they will cater.”
KTC also intends to tie-up with Economic Development Corporation to finance the purchase of vehicles. Almeida said that EDC may help in employment generation and help individuals purchase vehicles which they will hire. “All these are options and we are exploring every possibility to start the services in the best way,” he added.
Stating that the services would be available to passengers from all major bus stands, airport and other important locations, he said KTC is open to suggestions from other operators on the venture.
He added that the corporation has been approached by other agencies as well as car manufacturing companies with proposals to start the cab services. “Some car companies have also contacted us and are willing to give us cars on long term lease,” he said.
KTC signed a memorandum of understanding with Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) for safer and more fuel efficient services. Through the MOU, PCRA will impart training to drivers to provide eco driving and safety practices.
