St Jerome Parish Youth organized the vibrant Amche Diaz 2.0 to mark both Independence Day and the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. This year’s theme, ‘Traditional Goan Occupations,’ was a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Goa. The event kicked off with Fr Leonardo Morais,parish priest,unveiling the Amche Diaz 2.0 background poster, followed by a welcome address, where he highlighted the enduring significance of traditional Goan livelihoods.
The youth then set the tone with a spirited patriotic dance celebrating Independence Day. A lively parade followed, with each ward (sector) proudly donning traditional Goan attire to represent various occupations, all to the rousing sounds of a trumpet band. The parade featured Goenchem Poder or bread makers (Gaunsa Vaddo), Goenchem Kumbhar or potters (Sector 9), Goenchem Xetkamti or farmers (Acoi and Sector 8), Goenchem Kharvi or fisherfolks (Sector 5 & 6), Goenchem Dudhkar or milkmen (Billow Vaddo) and Goencho Soro or alcohol makers (Ansabhat and Khorlim).

The celebrations continued with another dynamic dance by the youth, themed around Goan occupations, which led into the introduction of each vaddo (ward) and their associated occupation, followed by captivating performances by each group. Adding to the festive atmosphere were two engaging side activities: a photo booth filled with fun props and a kids’ corner where children could unleash their creativity by painting and decorating small pots and lamps, along with moulding clay.
No Goan celebration is complete without a feast, and the food stall did not disappoint, offering 13 mouth-watering Goan delicacies, including Mannos, Vonn, Metianchi Pez, Chonne, Chav, Doce, Xirvoyeo, Pinagr, Bolina, Patoleo, Sanna, Donne, and Dodol. The event concluded on a high note with a vote of thanks from Fr Agustin, Priest Youth Animator, and a joyful group photo capturing the spirit of unity and tradition among the youth.
