CANACONA: Despite the dwindling number of students in government primary schools, all 15 government primary school (GPS) buildings in Canacona will sport a new look in the next academic year.
“Ninety per cent of works in seven schools out of 15 GPS buildings has been completed ensuring quality and quantity of repairs,” informed the contractor Vishwas Dessai.
Dessai said the works which were commenced under GSIDC in July has one-year tenure and before the commencement of next academic year, all the 15 GPS buildings will sport a new look with quality repairs and up-gradation.
“All these school buildings will have toilets and roofing with latest technology. While upgrading these buildings, the antique looks will be maintainedt,” stated Dessai.
Incidentally, 10 years ago the contractor, M/s Coastal Builders, had repaired and renovated about 20 schools in Quepem and Canacona talukas, and this time around under GSIDC has been entrusted with repairs, up-gradation and maintenance of government schools in four talukas including Salcette worth Rs 2 crore in each taluka.
GSIDC team also regularly visits these school buildings to ensure proper and quality implementation of repairs, up-gradation and maintenance as per the terms signed by the contractor.
