PONDA: The Ponda Goods Transport Association (PGTA) has extended its support to the strike by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) from the midnight of May 12 to protest against the entry tax by the State government on outstation vehicles.
“Though we have no role to play in the strike call, we support the decision of the All India Motor Transport Congress. We had already demanded a roll back on the entry tax,” said PGTA Secretary Sayyad Passha.
Incidentally, PGTA along with other transporters in April had withdrawn the strike following an assurance from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of issuing concessional passes to regular non-Goan vehicles plying in the State.
“There won’t be any business if the vehicles do not enter the State. There are about 250 transport offices at Ponda and on average, about 900 vehicles are involved in transportation of material through our offices,” informed Passha.
