MARGAO: Subsidized sewerage connections have returned back in Fatorda constituency ~ more than seven years after the former government had abruptly discontinued the subsidy scheme.
In a bid to make households across Fatorda avail the underground sewerage scheme, the government has revived the subsidy scheme, wherein the government will bear 25 per cent of the cost of connecting the household chambers to the underground line.
PWD Assistant Engineer, Ganesh Velip informed that the government has come out with a subsidy package for various categories of households. For instance, he said that individual houses and bungalows will be charged at 75 per cent of the estimated cost, while each flat will be charged Rs 3,000 for the individual sewerage connection.
If Velip is to be believed, around 2,000 households will be eligible to avail benefit of the subsidy scheme.
“There’s all-round construction activity across Fatorda today. The subsidy scheme will help the households to avail the subsidy facility”, he said, adding that the last date of availing the scheme is September 30.”
Low-lying areas of Fatorda, including the Madel area opposite the KTC bus stand is already connected to Margao’s ambitious sewerage project, but many a housing society and individual bungalows are yet to connect their soak pit chambers to the underground facility on account of high cost of linking the underground line to the chamber.
PWD officials said the department will hold an awareness campaign to spread the subsidy scheme amongst households. An official pointed out that discharging sewage waters in storm water drains can attract punishment by way of disconnection of water supply.
