PANJIM: Goa Police is in a process to prepare a proposal to strengthen the staff capacity of Goa Traffic Cell as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court Committee recommendations.
The present strength of the Traffic Cell is almost a half as per the state requirement and as per the ratio mentioned in the SC Committee guidelines. The present strength of Traffic Cell is 555 that include nine Police Inspectors, 23 Police Sub Inspectors, 33 Assistant Sub Inspectors and 489 Head Constables and Constables.
Speaking to Herald, Director General of Police Muktesh Chander (IPS) who was instrumental in implementing the same SC Committee guidelines in New Delhi said, “We are making a proposal as per the guidelines of SC Committee considering the population and vehicular population of Goa, which will be sent to the state government for consideration based on the said norms”.
Chander, who had also served in Delhi as a Special Commissioner of Traffic said that the Traffic Cell in Goa is grossly short in terms of the man power as well as in terms of equipment. He said that the increasing traffic population needs more staff to man traffic in Goa.
“We are in process to make a comprehensive proposal as per the norms of the Supreme Court Committee guidelines, further everything is in the hands of government” Chander said.
