Navelim businessman robbed of Rs 3 lakh

In a daring daylight robbery that sent shockwaves across Navelim, unknown miscreants snatched away a handbag containing Rs 3 lakh from a businessman in the village on Thursday noon.
The incident occurred at around 2.30 pm when 41-year old Pascoal Pires, a resident of Dialgona was heading to Bank of Baroda, Navelim branch to deposit cash amounting to Rs 3 lakh.
Margao police informed that Pires was about to enter the bank after parking his vehicle close by when two men suddenly approached him and flung chili powder on his face.
PSI Mohan Gawde said the victim immediately raised an alarm as the duo tried to snatch his handbag containing the money. Responding to the cries of Pires, a passerby tried to help the victim, but the miscreants brandished a knife before making good their escape towards Rawanfond.
PSI Gawde said that Pires was running a wholesale liquor business in Navelim and was as usual going to the bank to deposit money.
The Margao police later launched a hunt for the miscreants in vain. A case of robbery stands registered against the unknown robbers and further investigations are in progress.
Meanwhile, two separate theft cases were reported in Margao city yesterday with miscreants decamping with goods worth around Rs 2 lakh.
