MARGAO: To ensure free and fair elections, the five police stations in Salcete taluka have identified troublemakers and history sheeters who may pose a threat to peace during the polling process and action has been initiated against them.

Each police station in Salcete has warned these history sheeters of strict action and the police are maintaining a strict vigil on their activities.
Such trouble makers and others were produced before Sub Divisional Police Officer, Margao.
Suspecting that the elements will not only try and cause disturbance during the polls but also influence the voters, the police have intensified the day-night patrolling and have commenced flag marches.
In Colva police jurisdiction of six history sheeters, one has been exempted while five were summoned and warned.
Colva PI Melson Colaco said to ensure fair and peaceful elections the police have started taking action against history sheeters.
He said police have identified some troublemakers who may disturb the poll process and hence they were called and warned.
“We check their locations and whereabouts daily and if found involved in any illegal activities, strict action will be initiated against them,” the PI said.
He said the police are maintaining a strict vigil in different localities and precautionary action has been taken against possible troublemakers. We conducted flag marches on Sunday January 23 at Betalbatim, Majorda junction, Majorda Beach, Dando ground, Benaulim and Varca.
Meanwhile Margao, Maina Curtorim, Cuncolim and Fatorda police have records of history sheeters and have taken steps to keep check on such anti-social elements.
In view of the upcoming State Assembly elections, it is learnt that the number of history sheeters has swelled.
