PANJIM: Piedade Youth Association, Divar, came back from behind to score a 1-1 draw against Kevnem Sports Club in their final encounter of the Goa Football Association Division III League Ilhas Zone match to top the league standings and get promoted to the Division II League next season at Agassaim ground, on Sunday.
The match started on a promising note with both teams testing their rival citadel time and again in search of goals.
Kevnem Sports Club put up a tough resistance in the midfield thwarting Piedade Youth Association strikers’ move.
In the 14th minute, Parvin Hundri missed a close range opportunity to score to put Piedade Youth Association in the lead.
Kevnem Sports Club displayed good footballing skills by serving good passes to keep the Piedade Youth Association’s defence on their toes.
Piedade Youth Association’s star striker Rohan Pednekar also had a golden chance to score in the 26th minute but to utter bad luck his power-packed shot hit the rival crossbar.
At lemon break, both teams failed to open an account.
On resumption of play, Piedade Youth Association and Kevnem Sports Club regrouped with renewed ideas to move ahead in the match.
As the match progressed, Kevnem Sports Club took the lead in the 58th minute. Ten minutes later, Piedade Youth Association’s Aditya Vaigankar equalised in the 69th minute.
With a 1-1 draw, both teams started attacking each other’s citadel in search of the lead. Piedade Youth Association players dictated terms and had better of the exchanges in the final quarter of match.
Piedade Youth Association made many inroads in the opponent’s goal area but Kevnem Sports Club defence stood solid rock denying goals till the end of the match.
