Asks Fomento Green to submit the tech clearances granted by TCP

MARGAO: Excavation and transportation of mud from the Sonsodo waste dumping site came to a halt on Tuesday, pending verification of the permissions granted by the authorities to carry out the activity.
After a joint meeting convened by the District Collector, N D Agrawal, the Margao Municipal Council was called to submit all permissions obtained by the civic body to carry out excavation at the waste dumping site. The civic body, however, could not furnish the permissions and has now asked Fomento Green to submit the technical clearances, including hill cutting permissions granted by the Town and Country Planning department for verification.
This followed complaints lodged by residents of Raia that hill cutting at the Sonsodo waste dumping site has gone beyond the permissible limits. The residents had also questioned the logic of transporting mud from Sonsodo to Nuvem for the proposed bypass when Nuvem plays host to a number of hills to meet the objective.
Activist Raju Iyer said the municipality could not produce the necessary permission for hill cutting at the meeting. “The Collector says he is concerned only with the law and order situation and pushed the blame on the MMC in respect of the permission. Now, civic officials blame the Collector and the blame games continues,” he added.
Iyer and other villagers have warned the district administration that villagers of Curtorim and Raia will forcibly stop the hill cutting if the administration dares to resume the activity without producing the permissions before the people. “The municipality could not produce the documents. The civic body was only buying time. But we have made it clear that the mud excavation and transportation should not resume without the civic body producing the permissions,” he warned.
