CALANGUTE: Villagers at the Sangolda gram sabha on Sunday expressed concern over the rampant filling of agricultural fields in the village, stating that this is not only destroying the village’s agricultural heritage, but also leading to environmental degradation.

The gram sabha members urged the authorities to take strict action against those responsible for filling the fields and to implement measures to preserve the village’s agricultural land. Sarpanch Neeta Kandolkar called upon the locals to help the panchayat find solutions to the problem.
The gram sabha discussed the need for improved parking facilities and traffic management in the village due to increased traffic with the ongoing work on the elevated highway. The villagers discussed alternative parking sites and implementing better traffic measures. The issue of water scarcity was also raised, with members
emphasising the need for sustainable water management practices.
The gram sabha also discussed other developmental issues, including the need for improved infrastructure, healthcare facilities and educational institutions. Additionally, the issue of garbage management was highlighted, with members emphasising the need for proper waste disposal and recycling facilities.
The villagers expressed their frustration with the current state of garbage management, citing overflowing garbage bins and littered streets.
The panchayat members said they will work together with villagers to address these concerns along with other authorities to implement solutions. They proposed organising awareness campaigns on sustainable practices and environmental conservation, establishing a committee to monitor the progress of ongoing projects, and working with the authorities to implement measures to preserve the village’s agricultural land and prevent the filling of fields
