PANJIM: Punjab scored 396 for 2 against Goa on Day 1 of the Ranji trophy match, at the Goa Association Academy ground, Porvorim, on Tuesday.
After put to bowl first, Goa had a brilliant start to their innings which saw Rituraj Singh sending Manan Vohra back to pavilion for a duck. However, it was a nightmare for Goa team bowlers as they were hit all over the places by inform Jiwanjot Singh, who smashed an unbeaten 215 facing 271 deliveries. Jiwanjot hit 26 boundaries and one over the rope to frustrate the Goan bowlers.
His compatriot Uday Kaul (66) well supported him at the crease who played a slower innings. He set up a 160 run–stand for the second wicket partnership before being caught by Samar Dubhasi off Rituraj’s bowling.
Rituraj picked his second wicket, but that wasn’t over from Punjab as they went on rampant with Anmolpreet Singh and Jiwanjot together at crease. They put up a 232 run stand for the third wicket where in the former hit elever fours and two sixes for his century.
The Goan bowlers failed to take wickets and were unable to stop the batsmen at the crease who hit them all over the ground. Amit Yadav went for an expensive 114 runs in 26 overs while Darshan Misal was punished with 102 runs in 19 overs.
