VALPOI: The hotels, shops owners and some locals are polluting the village traditional tributaries since past many years. Most of hotels, shops and bars and restaurants owners are throwing their waste in the tributaries especially at night time. Some villagers are also releasing their drainage water, say locals from Sattari taluka.
According to Sattari locals, people are themselves responsible for polluting the traditional tributaries. Many small businessmen, who run the hotels, bar and restaurants in Sattari taluka are throwing the garbage, plastics and other unwanted things in the tributaries at late night. The local panchayats and the Valpoi Municipality have totally failed in taking action against these people.
“So we demand the government to take necessary action against these people,” says a local on condition of anonymity.
A few days ago, discussions were held at the ongoing Assembly Session on the local rivers polluting issue in Goa. At that time Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has replied in the Assembly House that the local people are themselves polluting the village rivers/tributaries. Once the river is polluted, it is very hard to clean it again.
“There is a need to update the Irrigation Act. I will read that Act first and will learn that Act. And later on we will make the changes. Through these changes we can save our traditional rivers/ tributaries from polluting. And the people who are polluting the rivers, we will take the strict action against them,” Dr Sawant had said.
