VALPOI: Angry at the delay in arresting the two brothers from Vantem, accused of attempting to murder a girl, around fifty Keri villagers marched to the Valpoi Police Station demanding strict action against the duo on Thursday.
The villagers claimed that the police delayed arresting the accused and giving a copy of the FIR to the victim.
“The accused were arrested only after public pressure,” a villager said.
The villagers suspect that the police are deliberately dragging their feet in the case.
The villagers also demanded that the police slap attempt to murder charge against the accused duo.
“Previously too there were two such attempts in the village,” another villager said.
According to the villagers, the accused duo tried to kill the girl near Pissurlem village by attacking her on her neck and hand with a sickle, on Wednesday. Noticing the attack, some Pissurlem villagers saved the girl.
Initially, the girl was taken to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. And after her conditions improved, she was brought to the Primary Health Centre, Sanquelim.
