RAIA: Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna scored a solitary goal win over Raia Sports Club to cruise into the final of the 22nd Fr Basilio Andrade memorial football tournament organised by Associacao Academica de Majorda-Utorda-Calata, at Musson ground, Majorda.
This marks Rossman Cruz’s second consecutive finals appearance, having ended second best in the previous edition.
In a closely contested match filled with back-and-forth action, the fans witnessed more missed opportunities than successful strikes. The first half saw a well-placed chip over the Rossman Cruz’s defence, which found Jouston Barbosa of Raia SC in the rival box, but his attempt was thwarted just in time by a sliding Joasle Fernandes.
On the other side of the pitch, Lenon Pereira darted in from the right flank to meet a through pass, but Raia SC’s goalkeeper, Jake Medeira, made a crucial save off Lenon, deflecting the ball for a corner.
Rossman Cruz had their moment to test Raia SC’s goal, and they did so successfully when Lenon’s strike from inside the Raia SC box eluded a diving Jake Pereira, finding the back of the net.
Rossman Cruz will now face off against Navelim Sporting Club in the highly anticipated final, with both teams vying for the trophy.
