PANJIM: A 55-year-old person hailing from Pune, Maharashtra, lost his life after he was hit by a private passenger bus at Mapusa on Tuesday, December 31.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Karve, currently residing at Alorna, Pernem.
According to police, the accident took place when the deceased was crossing road near Union Pharmacy when he was allegedly hit by a private passenger bus which was on its way from Siolim to Mapusa Bus Stand.
Karve, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, was rushed to Mapusa District Hospital where he was declared dead.
Sani Tukaram Mandrekar, 36, from Oxel, Siolim, who was driving the passenger bus has been arrested for driving in a rash and negligent manner, without ensuring proper care, caution and endangering human life and also fleeing from the spot without providing medical attention to the injured and without informing the police.
An FIR has been registered and the case is being investigated by PSI Mangesh Palni.
