CALANGUTE: The Walkway, a footpath dedicated to Msgr Herculano Gonsalves, was inaugurated by the Calangute panchayat on Saturday. Msgr Gonsalves was the founder of the Handmaids of Christ convent at Boa Viagem and Little Flower of Jesus school in Calangute.

The footpath alongside the Chogm road stretch from Calangute church to Boa Viagem has been built at a cost of Rs 2-cr to facilitate walking from the convent to the church.
VP members said the Walkway was a long-pending demand. “The nuns from Handmaids of Christ convent at Boa Viagem had written to the Calangute panchayat in 1999 requesting that a footpath be built as walking on the road was risky due to speeding tourist vehicles,” they said.
