Currently, trucks are permitted to make two to three trips each day, with mining transportation operations running from 8 am to 6 pm. However, the villagers, who depend on transportation for their income, assert that they need at least 8 to 12 trips daily to make ends meet.
Babulo Morlekar, a local truck owner, explained, “We bought trucks on loans and by mortgaging family gold. The number of trips we make now is just two or three. From what we earn, we have to pay the drivers and maintain the machinery. After all these expenses, our families are left with no money for survival.”
The issue has sparked division within the village. While a section of the community opposes the transportation of ore through their village due to concerns about safety and road congestion, truck owners and those employed by mining companies are pushing for an increase in trips to ensure a stable income.
Yashwant Pednekar, another truck owner, stated that they had not yet approached the government for support. “The government has not bothered about us. If the trips are allowed between 6 am and 6 pm, all the problems will be solved,” he said, adding that they have been adhering to all necessary safety protocols to prevent inconvenience to
