Will phase out ticket trays carried by conductors

MARGAO: Kadamba Transport Corporation on Wednesday introduced electronic bus ticket issuing machines for conductors, even as senior KTC officials disclosed plans to introduce a reader device to check validity of passes.
Deputy General Manager (Traffic) Sanjay L Ghate told media persons that electronic ticket issuing machines have been loaded with all the 254 routes covered by the KTC buses. “These machines will do away with the ticket trays carried by the conductors in their hands,” he said, adding that the ticket issuing machines will go a long way in helping both the commuters and the conductors alike.
On the card reader devices, Ghate said these will be introduced within the next two months. “The reader will help detect passengers trying to travel with invalid passes. The conductor will also get the information about the number of card holders travelling in the bus,” he added.
He said the Corporation has started training the conductors, adding that they are happy with the machines.
Replying to a question on leaky buses, Ghate said the government has embarked on a plan to phase out all ageing and leaking buses. “Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has promised to provide 25 buses every year. We have the best of buses. If there is any bus which is found leaking, we immediately take care and plug the leakage.”
