PANJIM: The State government is intending to challenge the acquittal of three persons in the sensational 2007 murder of Sameer Mapari before the Bombay High Court at Goa.
Government sources have confirmed that the prosecution will appeal against the decision of the Margao District and Sessions Court to release Rajesh Dessai, brother of former BJP minister Ramarao Dessai, Balesh Dessai and Vinay Dessai from Xelvona in Quepem from murder charges.
The deceased’s mother, Sita had bitterly wept before the open court after the lower court’s verdict this Wednesday and later attempted to assault accused Rajesh with footwear in the court premises.
Public Prosecutor Sarojini Sardinha has been quoted as saying she was pressurised during the trial of the case.
Meanwhile, advocate Aires Rodrigues has also decided to move the High Court challenging the lower Court’s order “in public interest”.
