RAIA: Ex-international, Goan legendary football player, Menino Anjos Figueiredo from Carmona, who captained the Goa State team which made its maiden appearance in National Santosh Trophy in 1964, was laid to rest at Our Lady of Socorro Church cemetery in Carmona on Sunday.
Fr. Socorro Carvalho, Parish Priest of Socorro, who was the main celebrant exhorted the faithful to follow the teachings of Lord Jesus. “As the Lord has risen today, let our Menino take part too in Lord Jesus’ resurrection.”
Several villagers, football players, football fans, AIFF’s Savio Medeira, GFA’s general secretary Lector Mascarenhas were among those who attended the funeral.
Meanwhile, the AIFF condoled the death of ex-India defender Menino Figueiredo. President Kalyan Chaubey said: “I am saddened by Menino Figueiredo’s demise. He was one of the pioneers of Goa football, whose skills and performance attracted national attention.”
