CALANGUTE: St. Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna prevailed over Calangute Association 7-6 via sudden death tie-breaker to move into quarter-finals of Rusi Daver Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament organised by Adarsh Yuvak Sangh at Saligao grounds on Wednesday.
Marna boys began the match on an attacking note and came close to scoring in the very second minute of play but Ryan D’souza’s header sailed inches wide. Marna failed to convert another good move in the 4th minute as Sagun Pednekar failed to capitalize on a cross from Melroy D’souza.
Changing over, both the teams came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but their forward failed to score and the match ended in a draw.
The winners were decided on penalties. Marna boys kept their nerves to beat hot favourites Calangute Association 7-6 in sudden death. Dylan Noronha, Claudio Rodrigues, Francis Fernandes, Ryan D’Souza, Sagun Pednekar, Raymond D’souza and Elino Fernandes converted for Marna while Alex Fernandes, Deep Govekar, Filinho Ratos, Domnic Fernandes, Vichal Vaigankar and Blake Haldankar were on target for Calangute.
