PANJIM: The Congress party has urged the people not to oblige to a donation drive started by the Goa government to help the victims of Uttrakhand flood victims.
Addressing a press conference in his party head office in the capital Saturday, spokesman Sudip Tamhankar alleged the government was just making a show of its generosity by announcing to collect crores of rupees for the victims.
“The government should instead spend money on buying books and raincoats for the students of Goa rather than donating money to flood victims,” he said. He alleged there was no transparency in the donation drive.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently announced to contribute Rs 5 crore towards the rehabilitation of disaster-struck Uttarakhand and hoped to raise between Rs 15-20 crore from public donations. Some BJP legislators have already begun door-to-door collection.
