Ponda locals hold rally against drugs

PONDA: Ponda residents on Tuesday took out rally against drug in the city and submitted a memorandum to the Ponda DySP Mahesh Gaonkar and PI Harish Madcaikar demanding that the drug menace be at least minimised in the city.
The rally was organised in view of International Day Against Drugs. 
In the memorandum, the residents complained that their school going children are being trapped and targeted by drug peddlers. 
DySP Mahesh Gaonkar said that the drug problem is caused migrant labourers, who while coming to Goa bring along with them ganja which is easily available in their States.
Highlighting their effort to curb the drug menace, Gaonkar said that since January this year, the Ponda police have arrested 14 persons for ganja possession.  
He advised the parents to be more alert and keep watch on activities of their school going children.
