BELGAUM: Residents of Peeranwadi, Jamboti, Kakumbi and other places have warned the authorities to immediately stop the rising menace of the multi axle and other heavy vehicles on the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla.
According to the residents, the shortest route between Belgaum and Goa is now under the threat of deterioration due to these vehicles that are officially supposed to use the NH4A.
Residents who submitted a memorandum to the RTO authorities have stated that due to the movement of heavy and multi axle vehicles that are transporting steel and other heavy commodities, there is a rise in the number of accidents.
“We have spent over two decades and we had staged agitations and other democratic ways for this route. We met with success as Karnataka government yielding to our demands constructed the road three years ago. However, since this being the shortest distance to Goa, movement of heavy vehicles has increased, posing a threat to the motorists,” activist Kiran Gavade from Kankumbi told Herald.
“Movement of these vehicles is also posing serious threat to motorists from both the states. Movement of these vehicles is also causing road blocks and accidents. In case action is not initiated we will be forced to agitate,” added Gavade.
Meanwhile, officials who are just coming out of the recently concluded session of the Karnataka Legislature have assured villagers of appropriate action.
