ANJUNA: Irked over irregular water supply, the residents of Dabholkarwaddo, Anjuna on Friday threatened to go on a hunger strike and hold “rasta roko” if the PWD don’t solve their water problem within next 15 days.
The residents marched to the office of PWD Mapusa to confront the Assistant Engineer regarding the water woes. However, since the concerned officer was not present in the office, people could not meet the AE.

The residents then gathered outside the building and threatened to go on a hunger strike and hold “rasta roko” if the PWD does not supply water regularly within next 15 days.
While threatening to go on a hunger strike and “rasta roko”, Keshav Palyekar, former deputy sarpanch of Anjuna-Caisua Panchayat said, “It’s been several years now that we are facing water issues in Anjuna-Caisua and for the last seven months, we have not received a single drop of water especially our Dabholkarwaddo. None of the PWD officials have looked into this matter. Common people are struggling for their basic needs.”
Shital Dabholkar ward member said, “For the last seven months we have not received water. We came to the PWD office today to question the AE about it but none of the officials bothered to listen to our grievances. We are struggling to get the basic facilities. Earlier, we used to get a little amount of water but now since the roads are dug, the water supply is completely stopped. I request the government to look into it and provide us regular water supply.”
Alleging that the hotels are given connections of two inches pipeline and half inch to the locals, another resident said, “Three or more connections are given to the hotels of two inches pipeline and the locals are given half inch connections and we have proof of that. Also the water supplied through tankers is not enough since even after giving three connections to the hotels, water tankers supply water to the hotels. The Executive Engineer should investigate this matter.”
“The valve operators manipulate water supply but none of the officers of PWD is taking any action on them. We made several visits to the PWD office in regards to water issue and given letters but till date our problem has remained unsolved. Since the roads are dug, the water supply is completely stopped.”
