Austerity loving Parrikar accepts big fat birthday bash

BJP’s genuflection showcased as party by political and social friends; 132-person strong committee to make this a huge expensive party

PANJIM: A 132-member sub-committee called ‘Manohar Parrikar 60th birthday celebration committee’ headed by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been constituted to host a civic reception for Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. 
Speaking to media persons, Parsekar said Parrikar will be achieving a big milestone on December 13, when he turns 60, and hence his political and social friends and well-wishers have decided to mark the day with a grand celebration. “He is a leader who never celebrated his birthday but we decided to make it special,” he said. 
Praising his predecessor, the Chief Minister said that Parrikar’s political growth is an inspiration to many, wherein the leader has established his image right from politics, social to educational sector.
The committee has four vice presidents – Union Minister Shripad Naik, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar and BJP president Vinay Tendulkar – along with all other BJP and MGP MLAs, including Independents Avertano Furtado and Benjamin Silva as members.
The committee also has MLAs Mauvin Godinho and Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco as it members along with industrialist Srinivas Dempo and Russian Consul General of Goa Victor Albuquerque, Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar and others.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari will be part of the celebration, which will be held at Gymkhana ground, Campal, Panjim.
