PANJIM: The streets of Panjim came alive on Friday as residents and visitors enthusiastically celebrated Holi, the Festival of Colours, at Azad Maidan.
Revellers gathered in large numbers, joyfully applying gulal to one another, exchanging greetings, and indulging in traditional sweets. Homes, streets, and public spaces were bathed in vibrant hues as participants splashed colours and celebrated the spirit of togetherness.

Holi, which marks the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil, is deeply symbolic. The festival’s colourful traditions reflect the bounty of nature and the renewal that follows the end of winter.
Adding to the festive spirit, the Gulalotsav event drew a sizable crowd, with prominent attendees including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa unit President Damu Naik, Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, former Panjim MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker, and Utpal Parrikar.
The Gulalotsav marked the beginning of the Shigmotsav festivities, which will continue with a grand parade on March 22 and a five-day entertainment programme at Azad Maidan from March 19 to 23.
The scheduled events include an orchestra performance on March 19, a drama on March 20, and a devotional song programme on March 21, ensuring a blend of cultural and festive experiences for all participants.
