PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) chairperson Anand Naik on Wednesday said that in order to bring discipline and avoid haphazard parking in the town, the Council plans to implement pay parking for which the government has issued a notification.
He said that the decision to implement pay parking in the town will be taken only after a joint review meeting of various departments including officials of the Traffic Cell, Sewerage Corporation and others.
He said, “The PMC had passed a resolution for pay parking in January this year and after initiating legal process, we had identified around 1,500 parking lots, including 600 for four-wheelers and 900 for two-wheelers. At present, some owners park their vehicles for the entire day which causes a shortage of parking spaces.”
He said, “Once the pay parking system is implemented, it should not be disrupted due to road digging for carrying out developmental works. The officials from various departments will be called for the meeting scheduled on December 6, at 10 am to discuss the pending works. After the meeting, a decision will be taken whether to implement a pay parking plan or delay its implementation by allowing completion of all pending development works.”
