PANJIM: Navelim Villagers Union got the better of Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem 5-3 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of 1st Balaji Ambe memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Cuncolim ground, Cuncolim. The score was 1-1 at half time.
Guardian Angel forged ahead in the 13th minute through Blinton D’Costa off a cross from Savio Mario Mascarenhas.
Navelim fought back and restored parity through Jorden Gomes off a corner kick by Orlando Viegas in the 25th minute. Navelim had yet another shot at the rival citadel but Jordan’s shot was saved by Curchorem defender Marcus D’Costa.
In the second half, both teams tried to score the match-winner but could not get past the defenders. In the 37th minute, Curchorem’s Savio dodged past two defenders and the goalkeeper but shot above the crossbar.
In the tie-breaker, Alister Gomes, Berwin Teles, Sanford Cardozo, Rowell Gomes scored for Navelim while Alton Fernandes and Allison Fernandes netted for Guardian Angel.
