MARGAO: The Citizens against Defections (CaD) group that had various awareness meetings across the State in the last two months urging the public not to forgive the MLAs if they had to defect have strongly condemned the defection of 8 Congress MLAs to the BJP.
“It was well known that the Congress MLAs were likely to defect into the BJP, and hence we had been holding protests in various constituencies represented by the Congress party MLAs,” said CaD in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“While all these MLAs who defected today, would very shamelessly deny before the media about their moves to defect. If at all this defection was delayed, it was purely on account of the negotiations over the “package” they were expecting from the BJP,” CaD members added.
“It is the biggest treachery on the Goan electorate, and that too on the eve of World Democracy Day that is celebrated worldwide tomorrow. We can’t imagine how god will punish these MLAs for swearing before the gods and breaking the same on account of their greed,” said CaD convenor Savio Coutinho.
“When it comes to Digambar Kamat, I fall short of words to speak about the ease with which he can fool the people and god as well. His statement about God telling him to leave his Party and join BJP is indeed most shocking, and a total mockery of the Gods,” said Coutinho, who is the former Margao Municipality Chairperson.
“In fact, all these 8 MLAs should be prevented from entering the religious places of all the 3 communities by the religious heads, and god-fearing people, for the mockery of God they have indulged in,” Coutinho said further.
