PANJIM: Cooperation Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Monday stated that the government will put mechanism in place to prevent frauds in the cooperative and credit societies in the State.
Shirodkar said that the government will also ensure that no cooperative banks and credit society will be bankrupt. The government will adopt measures like regular audit, checking and inspection of the books so as to make sure that there is no mismanagement and that no money of depositors is defrauded.
The government will also take measures to ensure that the Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) of the cooperative banks are not mounted. With over 2,000 NPA cases pending in courts, the minister said there was a need to strengthen the rules and regulations in the cooperative sector to protect public funds.
The Minister announced annual cooperative awards. The Sahakar Bhushan will be awarded to Dr Dattarm Desai and Sahakar Shri award will be given to Women’s Cooperative Bank chairperson Pratima Dhond.
Awards will be given to three cooperative societies namely V K Society, ACGL Employees Society and V P K Society while Gauri Shirodkar and Govind Naik will be awarded in the individual category. The awards will be presented to the awardees at a function to be held at Shiroda at 5 pm on Tuesday, November 19. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be the chief guest at the occasion.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies Arvind Bugde and Goa State Cooperative Bank Ltd chairman Ulhas Phaldesai were also present.
