Dempo have to put on the local Goa Pro League performance and battle it against the Kolkata outfit.
The Golden Eagles will be without the services of left wing-back Narayan Das, midfielder Peter Carvalho and right wing-back Debarata Roy. All three are recovering from injuries suffered in the recently concluded Hero Indian Super League.
However, coach Arthur Papas also has options in the form of attacking midfielder Francis Fernandes and Lenny Rodrigues, who have joined on loan from Delhi Dynamos and Pune City FC respectively.
Marquee player from Costa Rica Carlos Hernandez is yet to arrive at Dempo.
Dempo will certainly enjoy a distinct home advantage but it now needs to translate into goals. Much will depend on the likes of Ozbey Tolgay, Haroon Amiri, Clifford Miranda and FC Goa’s ISL hero Romeo Fernandes while Mandar Rao Dessai could also play a vital role.
“There are no nerves, no expectations. We have done our home work and we just want to go out there and play and express our selves,” said Papas.
Meanwhile, East Bengal head coach Armando Colaco, who handed five National titles for Dempo in the past is not feeling any pressure.
“There are minor aberration and injuries. We had short time to prepare as most of the players were indulged in the ISL and are tired. However, we had two good practice sessions in Goa and should work in our favour. We have worked hard and it will show,” said the former Indian men’s National team coach Armando, who feels the team is well focused to perform when it comes.
“I am not feeling any pressure. If the coach feels pressure then what will happen to the players. So I am trying to keep a very relaxed atmosphere and have told the boys to enjoy the match,” Colaco added.
East Bengal have pieced together a good squad roping in Nigerian duo Dudu Ogabemi and Ranty Martins. New Zealand Leo Bartez and Marquee player Milan Sosa and India defender Arnab Mondal, Ralte are also an integral part of the team along with Cavin Lobo.
