MARGAO: A second half strike by Jose Mario Ferrnandes helped Max Veterans, Colva to overcome Ponda Veterans 1-0 and advance to the quarter–finals of All-Goa Navelim Veterans football tournament organized by Navelim Veterans at Rosary ground, Navelim, Monday. There was no score at half time.
Max Veterans held an edge over their opponents with former Sesa midfielder Alfred Fernandes alongwith Inacio Viegas controlling the midfield.
Max Veterans could have taken the lead soon after the kick off but Satan Fernandes muffed a sitter.
The all-important goal came in the 60th minute when Yuri Ferrao floated the flag kick which dipped into the rival penalty area and Jose Mario Fernandes made no mistake in punting the ball to the far corner of the net.
Anthony Fernandes of Ponda Veterans was adjudged man-of-the-match.
