Goa Varsity footballers excel

The victorious Goa University football team arrived today with the West Zone Inter-University championship and All-India inter-university runners-up trophy.
The team was received by Milton Fernandes, assistant director of physical education and sports of Goa University alongwith his colleagues at Tivim Railway Station.
Goa University performed extremely well at the West Zone and All-India inter-University football championship. They played four matches at the West Zone with three wins against Nagpur, Mumbai and LNIPE and a loss against the hosts, Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur.
Goa led the table with six points to clinch the West Zone championship, followed by the runners-up Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya with four points while Mumbai secured the third position with four points and LNIPE bagged the fourth place with two points.
At the all-India championship, Goa played six matches, of which they won four against Kerala University, Punjab University, Mizoram University and Calcutta University, drew one against Devi Ahilya University and lost one against Punjabi University.
Dileep Deobagkar, vice-chancellor of Goa University, Dr. M M Sangodkar, registrar, Dr. Susana de Sousa, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and V M Prabhudesai, Executive Director SAG, congratulated the team for their spectacular performance.
