MARGAO: The proposed road over bridge by the railways and MRF facility were key issues debated at the Majorda gram sabha by villagers on Sunday.

The question of constructing a road over bridge at Majorda over the tracks by the Railways were deliberated upon after the panchayat brought to the notice of the villagers that they had received a proposal regarding the matter from the railway authorities.
When some members raised concerns about the need for a road over bridge at Utorda, the sarpanch assured that the panchayat would forward the demand to the railway authorities for further consideration.
The meeting, chaired by Sarpanch Anthea Pereira, members raised the contentious issue of the regarding the construction of the MRF facility which was just a few feet away from the fields.
Several members urged the panchayat to withdraw the proposal for setting up the facility at the current location. The sarpanch explained that the MRF issue is currently under the scrutiny of the High Court, and any action by the panchayat contrary to the court’s proceedings could lead to contempt charges.
Pereira also clarified that members could file an intervention petition with the High Court to address their concerns about the MRF facility.
A group of gram sabha members who visited the MRF site raised doubts over the progress of the construction, claiming that the work had only reached the wall construction stage, contrary to the panchayat’s assertion that the facility was 70 percent complete.
